Evgeny TOMASHEVSKY: "I WAS SLOW TO GRASP"
The European Chess Champion 2009 Evgeny Tomashevsky was knocked out of the Cup losing his match against Alexey Shirov of Spain. Therefore, he has stopped his non-losing series of 58 games.
Evgeny Tomashevsky made the following comments: “I was very confident going from one game to another till Round 3. But I could not stand up to an opponent who was more experienced than me. It seems I was not in good shape. Alexey did not make any special moves: he has got a playing position, which being in a normal state, I should hold without any problems. But I blundered at the first occasion. The final mistake was made at move 40” .
“The match against such a serious opponent should have been an indicator of my perspectives in the World Cup,” – says Evgeny. “It should be clear after the match whether my brains are working. It turned out that my brains are not working at all. Every series of success stops sooner or later. It is a pity that my series stopped so ingloriously”
